This Year's Show is...

How time flies when you're having fun. It's already time for a new show, and this year we will be proudly presenting, for your viewing pleasure, Patience in March 2012, and Trial by Jury in December 2011.

"The Plot of Patience revolves around two aesthetically minded gentlemen, Reginald Bunthorne and Archibald Grosvenor, and the woman they both love, Patience the milkmaid. The love story is somewhat unusual, as Gilbert takes the idea of love being noble and self-sacrificial and exaggerates it. Therefore Patience, who comes to believe that love must be a duty and not a pleasure, refuses to marry any man who appears to be perfect as it might make her happy, and thus be untrue to the nature of love."

The show will be Running from the 14th - 17th March in the Northcott Theatre in Exeter.

This year is particularly exciting for the Society as it will be the first time we do two separate productions. Our other production is Trial by Jury, to be set in the Exeter Guildhall, formerly a working courthouse. This will be performed on the 12th, 14th and 15th of December.

"It is Ten O'clock in the Court of the Exchequer, and the Jury and Public excitedly anticipate the start of the forthcoming trial. The Usher calls for order and instructs the Jury that the case must be free from bias of every kind (unless the bias happens to benefit the fair plaintiff). On his arrival, Edwin, the defendant, explains that Angelina has sued him for breach of promise because he has found a new love. He receives no sympathy from the jury, although they all have similar peccadilloes in their past. The Learned Judge enters, and after receiving a tumultuous welcome, tells one and all how he attained his lofty position."
